Build a utilization dashboard for Outpost Creative, a 14-person digital agency in Portland, used by the ops lead to catch under-booked weeks before they hit revenue. Layout. A filter bar across the top: department (Design, Engineering, Strategy, Accounts), role, client, and a period selector defaulting to the last 12 weeks. Under it, four stat cards: agency billable utilization this week (74 percent against an 80 percent target), billable hours this week (about 380), non-billable share (26 percent), and people under target (5). The middle row pairs two charts: a line chart of weekly agency utilization across the last 12 weeks with the 80 percent target drawn as a reference line, and a stacked bar chart of billable versus non-billable hours by department for the selected period. The bottom region is the summary table, one row per person: name, role, department, billable hours, non-billable hours, utilization percent with a colored badge, and a small trend indicator versus the prior four weeks. A Log Hours button opens a dialog capturing person, week, client or non-billable category, and hours. Data. Seed 14 people with names and roles across the four departments, nine named clients (Cascade Health, Torch Coffee Roasters, and similar), and weekly hour summaries per person for each of the last 12 weeks: billable hours split across clients, non-billable hours split across internal, new business, admin, and time off, with capacity of 40 hours minus time off. Plant the story: agency utilization slid from 83 percent to 74 percent over the last four weeks, driven almost entirely by Design, where new business pitch hours ballooned; meanwhile engineer Priya Raman has run above 95 percent for six straight weeks and is quietly over capacity. Behavior. Utilization is computed as billable hours divided by capacity; users only enter hours. Badge colors: green at 80 percent or above, amber 70 to 79, red below 70. The table sorts lowest utilization first by default, and every filter reflows the stats, charts, and table together. The dashboard must read fully populated from the seeded timesheets alone. Style. Use an ocean cyan accent for primary actions, the target line, and active filters, on a crisp light base with generous whitespace and a numbers-first tone.
